Currently, I'm listening to the soundtrack from Hamilton. Mostly cause I saw it Sunday with a date (!)

I had been listening to the soundtrack before, and I loved it. I don't like rap. But Hamilton manages to meld the music very well with rap.

Ed Sheeran did a few shows in the Johan Cruijff Arena (Amsterdam) this week. Last night he suddenly invites Robbie Williams up on stage to do Angels. I'm not sure how big an anthem this is in the rest of the world, but over here it's been the nr.1 feelgood singalong for over 2 decades. When it comes on in pubs & clubs everybody yells the lyrics from start to finish, from 16y/o girls to big burly guys in their 50's. I wasn't there, I'm not a Sheeran enthusiast, but many youngsters brought their parents and again young & old went berserk. This video gave me goosebumps.

It is the same here in the US.  Great song.  Thanks for sharing that.

The Orlando Nightclub Shooting happened more than two years ago.  It shouldn't be too soon for this ...

Lyrics:

Spoiler

Are you ready Steve? Uh-huh

Andy? Yeah

Mick? Okay

Alright fellas, let's go!

Oh it's been getting so hard

Living with the things you do to me

My dreams are getting so strange

I'd like to tell you everything I see

Oh, I see a man at the back as a matter of fact

His eyes are as red as the sun

And the girl in the corner let no one ignore her

Cause she thinks she's the passionate one

Oh yeah! It was like lightning

Everybody was fighting

And the music was soothing

And they all started grooving

Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

And the man in the back said everyone attack

And it turned into a ballroom blitz

And the girl in the corner said boy I want to warn you

It'll turn into a ballroom blitz

Ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz

Oh reaching out for something

Touching nothing's all I ever do

Oh I softly call you over

When you appear there's nothing left of you

And the man in the back is ready to crack

As he raises his hands to the sky

And the girl in the corner is everyone's woman

She could kill you with a wink of her eye

Oh yeah! It was electric

So perfectly hectic

And the band started leaving

'Cause they all stopped breathing

Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

And the man in the back said everyone attack

And it turned into a ballroom blitz

And the girl in the corner said boy I want to warn you

It'll turn into a ballroom blitz

Ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz

Oh yeah! It was like lightning

Everybody was fighting

And the music was soothing

And they all started grooving

Yeah, yeah, yeah-yeah-yeah

And the man in the back said everyone attack

And it turned into a ballroom blitz

And the girl in the corner said boy I want to warn you

It'll turn into a ballroom blitz

Ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz, ballroom blitz

It's it's a ballroom blitz

It's it's a ballroom blitz

It's it's a ballroom blitz

Yeah, it's a ballroom blitz

What is the connection with the Orlando shooting?

Orbital - Tiny Foldable Cities, is probably my favourite track in a long time. Very 8-bit in places.

LSD - Thunderclouds

Disclosure - You and Me.

Sofi Tucker - Batshit.

Depeche Mode - World in my Eyes.

For Christmas, I was given a couple CDs of old albums by Sweet:  Sweet Fanny Adams (1974), and Desolation Boulevard (North American release - 1975).  Awesome stuff that reinforces the band was definitely before their time playing '80s hair band music in the mid-'70s.  :D

Check out this track from SFA ...

Deerhunter - Death in Midsummer

I love music that breaks music rules, even when it's just a tiny bit. Like the timing used, and use of Harpsichord in this.

I've been on a mission to find new bands that I haven't heard before.  Bought tickets to see Deftones in August (which will probably be cancelled now) and Gojira was an opening act.  Started looking into them and found other similar bands and found Deafheaven

might have posted this before, but it would have been years ago. Was recently reminded how good this is. BTW, it's not the same song as the Beatles Blackbird.

...and on a similar tip, the theme from the Detectorists. Although it stands up by itself as a beautiful song, once you've seen the series it become additionally very evocative of the feel of this amazing bit of TV. Never have i had that "sink down in the sofa and smile contentedly" feeling as i have when the show starts and that theme plays.

If you've not seen it, please try.
