My August TBR: An Experiment In Mood Reading

♥️ Hi Everyone! ♥️

It has been so long since my last entry here! This summer has been so busy! As I come to the end of it and the beginning of a new year of home school with my kiddos I have been feeling like it is a good start for some new goals. It is a perfect time for a reboot and a fresh start. One goal I have is to have more blog entries. I mostly look at this blog as a way to decompress, keep myself accountable, have some good discussion, and really just a fun way to keep a record and have a place to look back at what I have been up to. I have more August goals that include fitness, diet, and recipes, because I have really fallen off in those departments as well (but more on that later).

Lately I have been having discussions and have heard the term "mood reader" thrown out there. To me I take that to mean that a person would read according to mood, right?! I would be interested to hear all of your thoughts on what it means to you...comment below!

I am not sure if I am a mood reader. I am suspecting that I am. I think I might feel like I need to be in a certain mood in order to really enjoy a good book. So I decided this month to come up with a list of books that I really want to read. There are MANY on this list.... No I will probably NOT get to them all. The plan is to give myself plenty of different options. Rather than stick to a list and a schedule I hope to pick based on my mood after finishing the previous book. I am a part of some buddy/group reads, so I know that I will have a few books that need to be finished before discussions happen. But for the most part I will just see where the mood takes me!       😀😆🤔😍🥵🧐😢🤬🤪

These are group/buddy reads I am doing, books that I will read for sure (hopefully) in August:

Emma by Jane Austen ♥️

My sweet friend @Stacyejaye sent this book to me! We have been trying to read a Jane Austen every month. This will be our book for August. I have never read this one! I can't wait to read it! Hoping to get to it ASAP! Jane Austen is always a comfort read.

Kings of Paradise (Ash and Sand #1) By Richard Nell ☠️

We are starting Kings of Paradise in August.  We will be Kicking it off with some reading sprints. Come read with us! This is a re-read for me. My favorite series that I have read this year so far! Looking forward to seeing what you all think of Ash and Sand!

River of Thieves (Thieves' Lyric #1) By Clayton Snyder ☠️

I am still on the fence about this but it looks small and sounds good so if I feel up to it, I may join the buddy read for  River of Thieves.

magicbites.jpg.68df72572b196ec2c0ac5a5d0c68d678.jpg

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels #1) By Ilona Andrews ❤️

@Stacyejaye, @Jolien Reads, @Ashley/ReadNowSleepLtr and I are doing our monthly 24 hour read-a-thon with this book! I got this book on kindle for $2.99! Excited to read it but mostly, the read-a-thons are just a blast! I always have a great time reading, chatting, and laughing with the ladies! If you want to join, check out the calendar. The more, the merrier!

gunslinger.jpg.85e91eeaf53e37e8e2ad277acaa85672.jpg

The Gunslinger (The Dark Tower #1) By Stephen King 😱

We are starting The Dark Tower series this month. Also not a big book, but I am interested to see if I like this series. I don't usually read a lot of horror, I am expanding my horizons! Discussion for this book is August 22nd.

Queenoffire.jpg.796458677ede22f8762a2f3f63082c95.jpg

Queen of Fire (A Raven's Shadow #3) By Anthony Ryan ☠️

This is a buddy read we are doing with @Jolien Reads! I am still reading book two Tower Lord as of August 1st.  So far really enjoying this series. I will get to this one before our discussion on September 4th.

NOW .... on to my mood reading options for August that I will be reading between group reads: 😀😆🤔😍🥵🧐😢🤬🤪

royal-assassin.jpg.19aa60a72cf9b5bd455dbf0c398cb72d.jpg

Royal Assassin (Farseer #2) By Robin Hobb ☠️

I loved everything about Assassin's Apprentice and cannot wait to find out what is next! I think I will for sure be in the mood to get to this. I wanted to read it in July but it didn't happen.

latwish.thumb.jpg.d9a4576af30e30d423784bd60cc4bfbe.jpg

The Last Wish (The Witcher #0.5) By Andrezej Sapkowski ☠️

I am starting the Witcher series in anticipation of the second season that will come to Netflix in December. This has been a series that I have wanted to read for a while. My son has read the whole series an loved it so much he is actually planning a re-read soon.

Sleepwalking.jpg.a35e2f509ab8978b9df12ab4a30a3b26.jpg

Sleepwalking (Nightmareland #3) By Daniel Banett  😱

I enjoyed the first two in this series! As I said before, I am not a huge reader of horror, these books are short and to the point, helpful in my effort to read more of it. With that being said, I find Daniel Barnett's books to be beautifully written. I really enjoy his writing style.

queensgambit.jpg.1f06cfdf6f2e81f02bf9038bf911af3f.jpg

The Queens Gambit By Walter Trevis 🤔

This book I picked up a couple of weeks ago at Target. I was just browsing around and grabbed it. I have been wanting to watch the show. I am not always the best at reading the book first. I usually will watch a show and then have no desire afterward to read the book.  Book first, adaptation later!

ACOFAS.thumb.jpg.a317cbd678a69479a2f5e2987b32dc5f.jpg

A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thornes and Roses #3.1) By Sarah J. Maas ❤️

As of today, August 1st, I am still reading book 3 in this series, A Court of Wings and Ruin. I WILL finish today! This series is so good. I have a weakness for faeries and romance. I have loved everything about these books! ACOFAS is a novella that came after the trilogy. I do not know anything about it at this point. I just didn't want to read any of the synopsis in case it spoils the original trilogy for me.

handsdown.jpg.541baa742935baf2759d9b900c864300.jpg

Hands Down By Mariana Zapata ❤️

This WILL happen! Anyone who knows me, knows that I am OBSESSED with this author. She makes a 500-600 page book feel like 100 pages. Hands Down is her newest book and the last book I have left to read of hers. I am so sad, but excited! I am going in blind, but I predict that the hero may be a character from The Wall of Winnepeg. Just a guess, we will see if I'm right. Mariana has a way of introducing you briefly to a character in one book, enough that you are endeared to that character.  I am always excited when I start a book and find out who it follows, some are new characters and some are that character that just had a small part in a previous story. This is why I read all of her books in chronological order. They are and can be read as stand alone novels. But you miss the little hints and easter eggs of previous characters.

smitten_.jpg.a02ff2fd3cc9a8579b371ab0b8db767b.jpg

Smitten By Lauren Rowe ❤️

I finished Rowe's Morgan Brothers series in June. I had never read any of her books before and I found that series to be enjoyable. They were a great mix of funny, steamy and had some emotional story lines. Smitten is a spin off of sorts, from the Morgan Brothers series. The main character being a friend of one of the brothers. He was in the books but I am excited to read more about him. I have heard that this is a sweet friends to lovers story.

thegravity.jpg.599397569ef2b51d9a4901b0afc7cd9c.jpg

The Gravity of Us (Elements #4) By Brittainy C. Cherry ❤️

I have been reading through this series one a month for a few months now. They are stand alone and can be read in any order. But of course, my OCD has me reading them in order. Cherry is a beautiful writer. These stories always have tragedy, humor, steam, and always bring me to tears. Brittainy has a brilliant way of evoking all of the emotions. I just love everything I have read that she has written.

46780279_Thtsecondchance.jpg.5b0cf3306195677d44d35ea6f2f08364.jpg

That Second Chance (Getting Lucky #1) By Meghan Quinn ❤️

If I read this, it will be my first experience reading Meghan Quinn. I have heard a lot of good things and have been wanting to try reading some of her books for a while now. I am going in blind so I am not even sure what to expect.

youslayme.jpg.a9eb9833db5eaaedf098f5e154fd4dfa.jpg

You Slay Me (Aisling Gey #1) by Katie MacAlister ❤️

This book! I am anxious to check it out! My friend @Stacyejaye recommended it as a fun and steamy palette cleanser between the heavy stuff. Sign me up!

carrerocontract.jpg.b3c62a82005f7c507a913945b0c74b8b.jpg

The Carrero Contract- Selling Your Soul; Alexi & Camilla (Carerro #7) By L.T. Marshall ❤️

This is a series I started at the beginning of the year. After a little break I am hoping to pick it back up and finish. It is broken up into sets of three. It changes character perspective every three books. I really loved the first six books. They were steamy and sometimes funny, a billionaire romance with a hint of mafia. There are some harsh topics that are approached in these books and can at times be very dark.  Each book usually leaves on a cliff hanger making it hard for me not to just jump right into the next one.

Sherlockjpg.jpg.719825ac1f47733a99917c9788ebb9e4.jpg

And last but not least 🧐 ......

I found this beautiful collection of Sherlock Holmes at Costco. The retail price listed on the box was $59.99, but I got it for $29.99! If you have a Costco membership and your store has it GO GET IT!! It was a steal! The books are beautiful! I have never read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Since watching the show Sherlock with our group I have really been wanting to read the stories and re-watch the show to see if I can find the little easter eggs that I know will be there from the books. I also think a short mystery here and there would be a great option for my mood reading experiment!

Those are my options! But who knows?! Maybe I will be in the mood for something not on this list! I will do weekly updates and share where my mood takes me! Should be fun!

What are you all reading this month?

Happy August and happy reading!! ❤️

Great TBR Brandie! I really look forward to all of our buddy reads and discussions afterwards. I'm still need to start Tower Lord (Tomorrow!) and I'm hoping I'll like it. :D At the moment I only have the buddy reads on my TBR so Tower Lord, Queen of Fire, Wrath, Kings of Paradise, Mirror's Truth, and Magic Bites! Already a pretty big pile for me haha!

I hope you get to the next Farseer book!!!

I love this experiment and I can't wait to read your weekly updates. I am so excited for all of the buddy reads I will be participating in with you. So many great books. Also, you just made me add 2 more books to my wishlist. Thanks for that :)

If you don't get to Farseer this month, we will have to have words. 😜

Mood reading for me is pretty much what you said. A good analogy would be food. Some days you feel like Italian and some days you want Chinese, but then there are days where you just want fast food to satisfy your hunger until your next big meal.

I think you will like Tower Lord. The pace is different from Blood Song and the style is for sure, but I am still enjoying it.
Farseer s a priority after Tower Lord!

I love the food analogy! Perfect! I’m sorry for making your TBR bigger? 😜 Lol Maybe it’s just a little payback for what you do to my TBR 😂😂 what did you add?

I promise I will get back to Fitz! Very soon!
